The Wounded Dragon and the White Scarf

980 words

Xiao Chen cried out in alarm and dashed toward the dense forest by the coast. The Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon had returned; he had to conceal himself quickly, or he would die without a burial place!

Fortunately, by the time the dragon's colossal, baleful shadow emerged from the sea, Xiao Chen had already plunged into the primeval forest.

Before long, the dragon's roar shook the heavens. Though several li away, the sound still pierced metal and split stone, rumbling like heavenly thunder and stirring one's blood and qi.

The Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon went berserk upon discovering that one of its eggs had been destroyed. It shrieked endlessly by the sea; its furious roars stirred the once-calm ocean into towering waves. Then the dragon demolished the vast coconut grove nearby.

A primordial beast as huge as a mountain, its entire body wreathed in leaping silver flames, it charged into the island's dense forest. Its fifty-meter-long frame erupted with sky-piercing murderous aura. Nothing could stand in its path.

Trees fell in rows, the earth shuddered violently, leaves rained down from the shaking woods, birds cried in terror and fled, beasts scattered in panic. Xiao Chen was forced to run as well, constantly changing his position within the thick forest.

The Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon was truly terrifying—invincible, unstoppable by any obstacle.

Whether by coincidence or because the ancient beast truly could command the clouds and rain, the sky darkened rapidly. Endless black clouds shrouded the island, followed by lightning and thunder.

Huge bolts of lightning lashed wildly. A hurricane swept in from the sea, snapping many towering trees and uprooting others, hurling them into the rain-drenched, murky sky where they were blasted to fragments by the massive thunderbolts.

It was a scene of apocalypse: darkness covered the land, cries of anguish filled the air, trees snapped and forests were destroyed, and the ancient beast's continuous roars rivaled the thunder above.

Throughout the night, the Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon's massive body burned with blazing silver flames as it rampaged through the forest, destroying everything in its path.

The primeval forest fell into chaos. Countless ferocious beasts fled in panic—not only common lions, tigers, and elephants, but also many savage mutant breeds: winged lions, horned serpents, three-eyed wolves as large as elephants, and golden centipedes two to three meters long.

There were even more primeval wild beasts, the kind recorded only in ancient texts. They ran like the wind and roared like thunder, causing even tigers and lions to flee in terror, making way for them.

Xiao Chen was utterly shocked. What kind of island was this? So many primeval beasts... It was like a primordial wilderness!

Above, lightning flashed and thunder rolled. The torrential rain showed no sign of stopping, and the gale continued to rage. Many fleeing beasts were swept into the sky by the wind, vanishing completely.

Several times Xiao Chen barely escaped disaster. Not only did he have to evade the ancient evil dragon, but he also had to avoid the stampedes of various primeval beasts. Once, when he fled into a sparsely wooded area, he was nearly swept into the sky by the hurricane—a hair's breadth from being torn to pieces.

After wreaking havoc for most of the night, the Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon charged toward the island's interior. The mountain depths fell into turmoil.

Beyond the dragon's furious roars, another beast's cry—equally piercing—rang out, no less powerful than the dragon's. Their calls alternated, drawing closer to each other.

Before long, the terrifying sounds of two primeval beasts battling echoed from the mountains. Their immense roars were deafening, even overpowering the thunder above.

Xiao Chen was astonished. A beast capable of rivaling the Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon—this island was truly shrouded in mystery!

"Roooar!" "Roaaaar!" The two savage beasts seemed evenly matched. Their fierce cries continued from the mountain depths, the battle apparently ferocious. The entire mountain range seemed to tremble, causing all other beasts to wail in terror.

It was a wild, stormy night: lightning crashed, wind howled, two ancient beasts fought fiercely, and thousands of creatures roared and fled in chaos... Not until dawn, when the rain subsided, did the battle end.

The Eight-Armed Malignant Dragon returned heavily wounded. The forest rustled violently as it passed, sending leaves flying. Its body, wreathed in silver flames, was covered in ghastly wounds. Large patches of scales had fallen off, leaving raw, bloody flesh. Three of its eight enormous claws were too injured to touch the ground, and the seven- or eight-meter-long silver horn on its head—though stained with the blood of its foe—was cracked.

One could only imagine how brutal the battle had been. What was the origin of that enemy beast, that it could exact such a price from the dragon? And who had won?

With the dragon's return, the forest fell into chaos once more, all beasts fleeing.

Witnessing all this, Xiao Chen felt the overwhelming might of the ancient beasts—truly terrifying.

The wounded dragon slowly dragged itself away. By then, the storm clouds covering the island had finally dispersed. The rain stopped, and the sky cleared. It was now morning.

The night's destruction had felled vast stretches of forest, and many beasts had died in the chaos. The primeval woods lay in ruins.

Morning sunlight spilled through the canopy, illuminating the dewdrops on leaves and petals, making them glisten like rolling pearls. The fresh air was crisp and pleasant.

It was a vibrant morning, a serene and peaceful dawn after the previous night's terrifying storm.

Xiao Chen walked over the broken branches and fallen leaves, savoring the freshness after the rain. Suddenly, his pupils contracted, and two brilliant beams of divine light blazed from his eyes.

By a small lake as clear as a sapphire, a white silk scarf hung from the branch of a towering tree, gently fluttering in the breeze. In this uninhabited forest, it was an eye-catching sight.
