Chapter 387: Stirrings Overseas - The Curious Treasure Subdues the Demon

“Begin the incantation!” Feng Sanniang barked, brandishing the large blue banner in her hand. Immediately, ripples of azure light spread outward from it.

The others said nothing, silently waving their own formation banners. In an instant, a blue radiance enveloped everyone within it. It flickered a few times, and then they vanished without a trace, their presence completely concealed.

To anyone looking from afar, there was nothing but an empty stretch of sea.

A moment later, two streaks of light flew to this spot, passing over it at high speed without stopping, as if still intent on fleeing.

The white mist behind them harbored no suspicion whatsoever and plunged directly into the area.

But the moment the mist entered the formation’s range, a brilliant blue light burst forth on all sides. A massive blue light barrier materialized out of thin air, trapping it within.

Feng Sanniang, Qu Hun, and the others then revealed themselves one by one at the edges of the formation.

They raised their blue formation banners, all pointing toward the light barrier. From each banner shot a bowl-thick pillar of blue light that continuously poured into the enormous barrier, making it grow ever more dazzling and deep azure.

Seeing this, the two streaks of light—one golden, one yellow—that had been in front immediately turned around without a moment’s hesitation and teleported directly above the barrier.

The light faded, revealing Elder Miao and a burly, disheveled man with hair like tangled hemp.

“Excellent! Well done! Now we must withstand this beast’s counterattack and let us use the borrowed treasure to take it down!” Elder Miao said, a look of delight on his face.

He and the other elder exchanged a glance, then reached into their robes and each pulled out an object. It was a pair of ancient, mottled bronze halberds. They were dull and utterly unremarkable in appearance.

The two Core Formation elders of the Six Allies Hall simultaneously composed their expressions, muttering incantations under their breath. The halberds in their hands floated up on their own, glowing with a yellow fluorescence that grew steadily brighter.

Meanwhile, the Koi Infant Beast trapped within the light barrier seemed to understand its predicament. After a piercing, infant-like cry, the hundred-zhang expanse of white mist suddenly contracted toward the center. In the blink of an eye, it had shrunk to only about ten-zhang in size, forming a milky-white misty shield.

At the same time, the thunderous roaring within the mist began to converge into a single, continuous sound, like ten thousand horses stampeding in unison. It shook the ears of the cultivators maintaining the formation, leaving them internally startled.

Suddenly, the infant’s cry ceased!

Then, countless blue, fist-sized orbs of light shot out from the white mist in a dense barrage, hurtling ferociously toward the blue light barrier. Their momentum was so fierce that everyone’s hearts tensed.

When the orbs reached about ten zhang from the barrier, a large swath of cyan-colored light flared up. A portion of the orbs flickered and vanished into the light, only to reappear above the white mist, slamming down violently. This part of the attack had been reflected back by the formation’s reverse-teleportation.

But the orbs were too many. The vast majority struck the blue barrier wall.

Instantly, both the blue light barrier and the white mist erupted in a dazzling, roaring white glare. Within the mist, the white light flickered and disappeared. On the barrier side, however, the entire wall began to shake. Blue and white light intertwined and flickered, making the barrier look as if it was on the verge of collapse.

“Friends, pour out your power! This is the Water-Gang Thunder, one of the Koi Infant Beast’s three great killing moves. It won’t last long. If we can hold out just a little while, we can weather it!” Feng Sanniang shouted, her face changing color. She was the first to utter a few incantation phrases, then spat a mouthful of Essence Blood onto the formation banner in her hand. The blue light blazed forth, and the bowl-thick pillar of light immediately increased several times in size, stabilizing the barrier in front of her.

Seeing this, the other five could only follow suit, channeling all their remaining magic power to forcibly support the grand formation.

Han Li, watching from behind Qu Hun, was a bit surprised. He hadn’t expected them to be forced into a life-or-death struggle so quickly after just beginning their engagement with the Koi Infant Beast.

This demonic beast was truly terrifyingly powerful!

Above the formation, the bronze halberds in front of the two Core Formation cultivators began to undergo a strange transformation. Amidst the solemn, mysterious incantations, the yellow-glowing halberds grew larger inch by inch. The tips slowly began to point downward, aiming precisely at the center of the white mist below.

The Koi Infant Beast inside the mist seemed to sense the danger from above. It let out a piercing, long shriek from within the fog.

Then, the white mist began to rotate slowly, its speed increasing until it transformed into a massive whirlwind, churning up towering waves. Within the spinning wave, blue glints of light were mixed in—the numerous, extremely dangerous Water-Gang Thunders.

Qing Suanzi and the others, witnessing the horrifying transformation before them, nervously glanced at Feng Sanniang. But she looked equally panicked, as if she didn’t know what terrifying spell the Koi Infant Beast was casting.

Seeing this, Han Li’s expression darkened. He urgently commanded Qu Hun to further overdraw his power and increase mana output.

Although he didn’t know what divine ability the Koi Infant Beast was using, it was clear the demonic beast was about to unleash a desperate final strike.

Thinking this, Han Li couldn’t help but look up to the sky. The two halberds had each grown to a massive seven or eight zhang in length, emitting a faint, pleasant humming sound.

The two Core Formation elders were forming a strange hand seal, their gazes fixed firmly on the giant halberds. Their incantations never paused for a moment. Their expressions were taut with tension, and fine beads of sweat had appeared on their foreheads.

With a strange “Gua gua” cry, the massive waves and wind, now a churning mass of blue and white, slammed horizontally toward one section of the light barrier with the speed of a thunderbolt. It was dozens of zhang high, its momentum utterly astonishing.

The middle-aged Confucian scholar and the young woman beside him suddenly turned pale, their faces losing all color.

Because this terrifying assault was aimed directly at the formation gate he was defending. He cried out in despair in his heart.

With no other choice, the man gritted his teeth. A light of interwoven yellow and blue burst from his entire body, enveloping him completely in a dazzling glow.

He then gripped the formation banner with both hands, pouring all his spiritual power into the banner’s pole. It transformed into a pillar of light of immense thickness, shooting out from the tip of the banner to meet the oncoming sky-high wave. The wave’s momentum was briefly checked, but it immediately slammed into the light barrier as if nothing had happened.

The sounds of thunder, shattering, and shouts of alarm came simultaneously.

The light barrier endured for only a moment before it shattered with a mournful groan.

Qu Hun and the other cultivators maintaining the main formation all changed expression in unison and spat out a mouthful of blood.

At the same moment he spat blood, the middle-aged scholar, without a word, grabbed the young woman beside him and they immediately teleported several dozen zhang away.

Just as the grand formation was broken and Feng Sanniang and the others were ashen-faced with terror, a furious roar came from above.

“Demon! Die!”

As the words fell, two massive streaks of yellow light flashed through the air like thunder and lightning, then descended from the heavens and plunged into the churning wave and wind.

A sharp, agonized infant’s cry erupted. The sea immediately became calm.

At the same time, the mist slowly dissipated, revealing the true form of the Koi Infant Beast hidden within. The two bronze halberds, now restored to their original size, were crossed and pinned to the surface of the sea, glowing with a faint yellow light.

Han Li quickly had Qu Hun take out a mid-grade spirit stone to hurriedly recover his magic power, while he himself focused his gaze downward.

The so-called “Koi Infant Beast” was truly bizarre.

It had the face of a newborn infant, the body and tail of a blue carp, and sprouting from its underside were four delicate little human hands and two huge fins that looked like wings.

But the strangest thing of all was that in its four human hands, it held four different objects: a massive, red crab claw; a several-foot-long blue coral; a white pearl the size of a chicken egg; and a silver clam shell that resembled a shield.

All of these objects were gleaming, clearly rare and precious treasures.

At this moment, the infant’s head on the beast was shrieking continuously, its face contorted in pain, revealing a set of sharp, jagged teeth that sent a chill down Han Li’s spine.

Its zhang-long carp body, meanwhile, was thrashing its tail and struggling wildly, trying to escape from under the two bronze halberds.

But these two bronze halberds seemed to be natural nemeses of the beast. No matter how it struggled, they held it pinned firmly to the water’s surface, completely subdued.

The two Six Allies Hall elders who had released the bronze halberds were not in much better shape than Han Li and the others, their faces full of exhaustion. Clearly, unleashing these two peculiar treasures had taken a toll on their vitality. Nevertheless, they wore expressions of wild joy as they flew straight downward.

The middle-aged scholar, Qing Suanzi, and the others stared at the subdued Koi Infant Beast, unconcealable greed flashing in their eyes.

But a glance at Feng Sanniang, who was watching them like a hawk, caused them to suppress any other thoughts. They could only swallow their saliva dryly and watch the two elders slay the demon to claim the treasure.

Just as the two Core Formation cultivators were flying excitedly to within only twenty or thirty zhang of the Koi Infant Beast, a jet-black, ink-like sinister wind suddenly rose from the sea directly beneath it. In an instant, it froze several hundred zhang of the ocean’s surface, along with the Koi Infant Beast itself, into a white, icy sculpture. Not satisfied, the wind surged upward, hurtling ferociously toward the two Core Formation cultivators.

Han Li and the others were completely stunned!

(Because the novel has recently reached a transitional part, I need to spend some time thinking through the details. So updates have been a bit slower. I hope everyone will bear with me! Oh, and for those of you with monthly tickets, please give me a few more; I never get tired of them! And as for those book friends who vote for a 12,000-word update, I can only look at you with tears in my eyes. Even though I’m incredibly tempted, I really don’t have the ability to do it. Hehe, I hope everyone will vote for 3,000 or 6,000!)
