Roll up, fellow Daoists! Our young beast-skin-clad sword immortal, Ji Ning, is still hoofing it to Anchan City when he stumbles upon a classic Xianxia roadside ambush: two Snowdragon Mountain thugs are about to finish off three struggling Zifu Disciples. But just when things look dire for the trio, a flash of unseen sword-light turns the hunters into the hunted. Ji Ning not only saves the day with a chillingly efficient kill, but he also gains some travel buddies who are absolutely *thrilled* to have a powerhouse like him as a free bodyguard. This chapter is a fantastic slice-of-life breather that mixes a tense rescue with the politics of clan life, setting the stage for the grand arrival at the legendary Anchan City.
This is a classic 'calm before the storm' chapter, and it's a treat for a few reasons. First, the action scene is beautifully efficient; Ji Ning doesn't even need to be on-screen to dominate, which perfectly underlines his current power level compared to 'average' Zifu Disciples. Second, pay close attention to Meng Jun. He's a fantastic example of a 'small-time schemer'—loud, sycophantic, and greedy, but ultimately harmless and a bit pathetic. His failed attempt to scam Ji Ning is both funny and instructive. Finally, savour the description of Anchan City's distant pressure. The author does a great job of using 'delegated awe' (代位敬畏)—making the city feel legendary and powerful just through the characters' reactions to it. *Get ready, because the real adventure is about to begin once they pass through those gates!*
