Our boy Li Huowang finally catches a break, and it feels almost as strange to him as a monster attack. After the grueling journey, the group is welcomed into a Qingqiu tribe’s feast as heroes for saving Sun Baolu. Li Huowang is treated to the first truly enjoyable meal he's had in either world, surrounded by music, dance, and genuine smiles. But old habits—and paranoia—die hard. His sharpened senses pick up on the undercurrents: a mother's uneasy silence, a child's drunken pleas to stay, and the nagging certainty that every piece of happiness in this world is just the calm before some new, unspeakable horror. The chapter is a masterclass in building tension through the *absence* of violence, letting the reader’s own dread do the work.
This is, hands down, the most “normal” chapter in a long, long time. And that is exactly what makes it so terrifying. Trust the author: this is not a happy vacation. This chapter is a trap baited with good food and kind smiles. Pay very close attention to Wu Yue. She’s an outsider in Qingqiu, and her final warning lands with the weight of a falling guillotine. The author is giving us a direct piece of information: Liang is bad. But the question is, how bad? And is it bad enough to make staying in a potentially “safe” Qingqiu worth the risk? Li Huowang’s momentary peace is our own peace being lulled—brace for the rug pull.
