Story context
Our favorite mortal, Han Li, is now stuck playing mana battery for a trio of demonic overlords who call the shots in this part of the ocean. In this chapter, we finally get the real reason why the Deep Sea Beast Tide was unleashed on the human islands, and it’s not just because some human cultivators were getting cocky. No, the true motive is way more personal for the demon race—a sacred relic got snagged by the humans, and they want it back. Han Li, of course, just got his hands on a mysterious copper slab that sounds an awful lot like that “Sacred Sanctum Fragment” everyone is fighting over. Classic Han Li—always in the wrong place at the right time to collect the world's hottest potatoes.
Why it matters
This chapter is a masterclass in **information asymmetry**—the key tension of the Mortal Stream. Han Li, the prisoner, overhears the villains expose their entire motivation for a war, and simultaneously realizes he might be carrying the trophy everyone is fighting over.
