Definition

A notorious pair of low-tier rogue cultivators. In the Mortal Stream, they serve as classic examples of predators who mistake vastly superior opponents for easy prey.

Story context

Ah, the classic "predator-prey reversal" chapter, served up with a side of Mortal Stream *perfection*. Our man Han Li, disguised as a loose-haired Foundation Establishment cultivator, is being stalked by two very confident (and very doomed) bandits who call themselves the "Twin Terrors of Peng and Yi." What they don't know is that their "fat lamb" is actually a Nascent Soul monster with a taste for tactical irony. We get a delicious inside look at their greedy plotting, the revelation of Han Li’s plan to use the Fu Family birthday to fulfill an old promise, and the final, icy moment where he drops the act and invites them to try their luck right then and there, in a remote valley far from prying eyes. Get ready for a masterclass in calculated deception.

Why it matters

This chapter is a masterclass in dramatic irony. We, the readers, know who Han Li is. The Twin Terrors do not. Every one of their smug calculations, every whispered plan, is a hilarious exercise in self-delusion. Savor the tension between the duo’s growing confidence and Han Li’s utter, predatory calm. Pay close attention to the narrative shift: after the setup of the Twin Terrors’ greed, the chapter pivots to meticulously lay out Han Li’s own, far more ambitious plan. We are reminded that while they are scheming for a few pouches of loot, he is scheming to annihilate an entire powerful family. The final scene, where Han Li drops the pretense with that chilling, knowing smile, is a perfect payoff. It’s not a fight scene, but a psychological victory won before a single sword is drawn. This is the Mortal Stream’s quiet, terrifying power.
