Our boy Han Li is caught between a rock and a hard place—or more accurately, between a slick-talking, mind-controlling Nascent Soul old monster (妙鹤真人) and a pissed-off, ninth-grade bird-demon with a serious grudge (Feng Xi). The chapter opens with Han Li already suffering the effects of the Wind Spirit Restriction, a nasty little leash planted by Feng Xi, and he's racing against the clock to reach a small island where a teleportation formation awaits. But just as he thinks he's safe, the sky tears open with a terrifying screech, and Feng Xi shows up in his true beast form, moving at speeds that defy logic. It's a desperate three-way race: Han Li trying to teleport, the demon trying to kill him, and the old Daoist trying to steal the treasure. The tension is thick enough to cut with a flying sword.
Why it matters
