The Unyielding Lord of Thunder

2,287 words

After the excitement subsided, Ji Ning began to ponder how to cultivate this technique.

This ‘Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent Evasion Art’ was unquestionably the number one evasion technique even within the Ninefangs Chaos Kingdom, having reached the absolute limit of speed. For such an inconceivable technique, the threshold and the price were both astonishing.

First was the first gate.

That was the transformation of the divine body! One had to allow the Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent to swim through the body, yet without harming the divine body in the slightest.

But this was far too difficult…

Take, for example, the Solar Golden Rainbow. It was born from the ‘Grand Solar Golden Flame’, a flame that possessed sentience. The Grand Solar Golden Flame was an existence that surpassed the Nine Great True Fires; even a True God Daofather did not dare use his physical body to withstand it. Even if one used magic treasures or cast spells to resist it, one might still be burned to death! And yet, the Golden Crows were born from the depths of the Sunstar itself. If a mortal fell into the ocean, he would drown; but fish within the sea were perfectly at ease. These Golden Crows, immersed in the Grand Solar Golden Flame, were as if in their own home, naturally immune to any harm. Thus, they were able to control the ‘Solar Golden Rainbow’.

The untamed Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent was on the exact same level of power as the Grand Solar Golden Flame!

Even Ji Ning, protected by his Arcane Art, would be instantly reduced to ashes by it! Thus, he had to transform his divine body… and this transformation was the most dangerous part of cultivating this evasion technique, a true ‘nine chances of death, one of life’. If he was even slightly off, his divine body would be turned to ash by the Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent!

The second gate.

If the Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent could swim within the divine body without harming it, then he would have to engrave the divine rune of the ‘Lightning Serpent Egg’ onto his body. This would give the Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent a ‘home’ where it could coil up within the Lightning Serpent Egg. Furthermore, by relying on this divine rune, he could gradually transform the ‘Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent’, causing it to undergo a qualitative change, like a sword being sheathed, no longer possessing its destructive nature.

Otherwise, the Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent was simply too savage; there was no way to control it freely. He had to tame it, remove its lethality, and make it as gentle as could be before he could use it for his evasion technique!

The Golden Crow’s ‘Solar Golden Rainbow’ was like this as well. Once it was tamed and controlled by a Golden Crow, the Solar Golden Rainbow lost its natural terrifying offensive power. It became incredibly gentle, moving according to the Golden Crow’s will, going wherever the Golden Crow wished.

But the process of taming and transforming the ‘Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent’ was also extremely dangerous, because during this taming and transformation, the Lightning Serpent would still be savage and violent. At this point, external power was required for assistance. According to the records of the ‘Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent Evasion Art’, one could use a ‘Thousand-Rotten Godfruit’, a ‘Thunder-Alloy Godcrystal’, or ‘Chaos Nectar’ to accomplish the taming.

As for the Thousand-Rotten Godfruit, within the endless chaos, there were countless stars. The Sunstar was an endless sea of fire. Other stars might have great trees growing on them. For instance, the Grand Yin Moon Star actually had a single osmanthus tree. There was also a divine tree known as the ‘Thousand-Rotten Godtree’, the most miraculous tree known within the Ninefangs Chaos Kingdom.

The Thousand-Rotten Godtree… during its growth, once it reached its limit, it would begin to wilt and rot. Once it had completely wilted and rotted away, a new sapling would once again sprout from its remains. It would grow once more, becoming even taller and stronger, then wilt and rot again…

Each time it wilted and rotted, the next growth cycle would produce a tree even taller and filled with even greater divine power, until eventually, after wilting and rotting a thousand times, the divine tree would reach its absolute peak. This time, the tree would bear fruit, and this fruit was called the ‘Thousand-Rotten Godfruit’. It took an entire Chaos Cycle for the fruit to gestate and be born. Once it ripened, it would fall off the branch in an instant. The moment it touched anything that was not of the primordial chaos, it would turn to ash. Therefore, one had to wait there early and catch the fruit as it fell.

After the fruit ripened, the Thousand-Rotten Godtree would once again wilt and rot, beginning a new cycle.

The ‘Thousand-Rotten Godfruit’ possessed unimaginably miraculous powers. Even within the Ninefangs Chaos Kingdom, they were exclusively claimed by the three World-level beings, including the Ninefangs Lord.

The ‘Thunder-Alloy Godcrystal’ was even rarer than the Thousand-Rotten Godfruit.

Occasionally, within the boundless chaos, a sea of lightning would appear. A vast amount of lightning would gather together… and within it, ‘Sea-Serpents of Lightning’ of tremendous power would form. These were on the same level as the Grand Solar Golden Flame. If a Sea-Serpent of Lightning developed intelligence, it would grow nine horns and be called a ‘Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent’. Only a Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent that had gained intelligence could be tamed.

If the sea of lightning was vast enough, and the Nine-Horned Lightning Serpents numerous enough, they might eventually condense into ‘Thunder-Alloy Godcrystals’. Nine-Horned Lightning Serpents loved to coil around Thunder-Alloy Godcrystals.

With just a single Thunder-Alloy Godcrystal, one could also tame a Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent.

Unfortunately…

The chaos was vast and boundless; only occasionally would one discover a sea of lightning. A sea of lightning that contained a ‘Thunder-Alloy Godcrystal’ was even rarer. Once discovered, it would be immediately snatched away by the great powers by any means necessary!

Chaos Nectar’ was even more miraculous. It was produced by establishing a vast major world, setting up a grand formation with the world as its foundation, and then extracting it from the chaos. One could extract six bottles of Chaos Nectar per Chaos Cycle! Furthermore, Chaos Nectar had no specific elemental properties and had many special uses in various fields. After all, the primordial chaos could give birth to all things, so this Chaos Nectar could also be used to tame the Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent.

To tame a single Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent, one would normally require nine Thousand-Rotten Godfruits, or one Thunder-Alloy Godcrystal, or six bottles of Chaos Nectar.

“I’ve never even heard of the Thousand-Rotten Godfruit or the Thunder-Alloy Godcrystal in the Three Realms. But I do have Chaos Nectar.” Ji Ning pondered. “Both the body transformation and the final taming require a Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent… and there actually is one in the Three Realms.”

“I’ll have to go pay my respects to the Lord of Thunder, Heavenly Thundergod,” Ji Ning mused.

Within the Three Realms, there was only one great power who could control a Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent, and that was the Lord of Thunder, Heavenly Thundergod!

This was a great power of tremendous strength. He had been in seclusion for a long time, training in solitude, and had rarely involved himself in the great tribulations of the Three Realms. In truth, there were many great powers like this… training in seclusion and silently preparing, ready to unleash their full power in the final catastrophe and shatter the enemy’s camp.

The Vast Swordworld, Mount Five Treasures.

Ji Ning rose from within his thatched cottage and spoke out loud: “Ninefang.”

A streak of light flew over from the distance and landed in front of the cottage. It was the Empyrean God Ninefang.

“Come with me to the Thundergod Major World,” Ji Ning said.

“Yes,” Ninefang acknowledged.

The two of them then boarded the Void Boat. It directly tore through space, leaving the Vast Swordworld and heading towards the Thundergod Major World.

In the distant, unfathomably ancient past, before the primordial era had truly begun, the chaos had birthed the ten Primordial Godbeasts and eighty-one True Gods. Each of these eighty-one True Gods was born innately grasping a single Grand Dao. Among them, the ‘Lord of Thunder, Heavenly Thundergod’, was born controlling the Grand Dao of Thunder. He was naturally incredibly gifted in the power of lightning. However, although his divine body could withstand many types of lightning, he could not withstand the Sea-Serpents of Lightning or the Nine-Horned Lightning Serpents of the chaos. After all, he was merely a True God.

Primordial Godbeasts like Zhurong could withstand the Grand Solar Golden Flame and the Solar Golden Rainbow. But even Primordial Godbeast Zhurong had no method to tame the ‘Solar Golden Rainbow’.

The Golden Crows were good at it, but that was an innate talent of theirs.

“Boom! Crack!”

An expansive major world.

As far as the eye could see, bolts of lightning and streaks of thunder struck down from the high heavens. In a single glance, one could see over a thousand of them.

The Void Boat was floating in mid-air. Even when the bolts of lightning struck the Void Boat, they could not penetrate it in the slightest.

“Let me have a look.” Ji Ning released his Heartforce.

“The Lord of Thunder, Heavenly Thundergod, is over there. Let’s go,” Ji Ning said. Although the Lord of Thunder was an incredibly powerful being, one of the top-tier Daofathers, his cultivation in Heartforce was still inferior to Ji Ning’s.

Swoosh.

The Void Boat tore through space once more and soon arrived before a floating mountain peak. This mountain peak was surrounded by a vast amount of circling lightning. On the mountain peak, there were soldiers wearing armor standing guard.

“Who goes there?!” an Immortal soldier guarding the peak immediately shouted.

“I am Ji Ning. I wish to pay my respects to the Lord of Thunder, Heavenly Thundergod,” Ji Ning said respectfully.

“Ji Ning?”

Those soldiers were all startled. Of course they had heard of the fame of the ‘Sword Immortal Darknorth’, Ji Ning. They immediately said, “Sword Immortal Darknorth, please wait a moment. I will go report your arrival.” A soldier instantly went to report. Ji Ning and the Empyrean God Ninefang stood on a cloud that appeared beneath their feet, silently waiting. This was the residence of a top-tier Daofather; they did not dare act disrespectfully.

Very soon.

“The Heavenly Thundergod says he will allow the Sword Immortal Darknorth to go see him,” the Immortal soldier said as he flew back.

“Ninefang, wait for me here,” Ji Ning commanded. Then, he flew directly into the floating mountain peak. The soldier said, “Sword Immortal Darknorth, please follow me.”

As he was being guided along the way,

Ji Ning sighed quietly. Generally, great powers made their own dwellings look quite beautiful, like the Eastern Palace, the Western Mount Ling, Mount Innerheart, and even the Heavenly Courts… they were all beautiful. But the place of this Lord of Thunder was entirely dark, and there was not even a single plant on this floating mountain.

“The Heavenly Thundergod is right over there,” the Immortal soldier pointed.

Ji Ning looked into the distance. He could vaguely see a majestic, enormous figure sitting there. The figure was at least ten thousand zhang tall.

Ten-thousand-zhang bodies were the innate form of True Gods at birth, their standard size.

“Alright.” Ji Ning nodded with a smile, then walked over. Soon, he arrived at the foot of the steps and said respectfully, “Ji Ning pays his respects to the Lord of Thunder, Heavenly Thundergod.”

That majestic, stalwart figure, clad in pitch-black armor, opened his eyes. Lightning crackled within his gaze as he looked down upon the tiny Ji Ning. He said, “Ji Ning, I have heard your name before. Bodhi truly does know how to train his disciples. Speak. What business do you have with me?”

Ji Ning felt a wave of relief. It seemed that the other party would at least give some face to his master, Patriarch Subhuti.

“Your junior is in urgent need of a Nine-Horned Lightning Serpent,” Ji Ning said respectfully. “Among all the great powers of the Three Realms, only the Lord of Thunder possesses one. I humbly beg the Heavenly Thundergod to grant me one, and I am willing to trade an innate spirit-treasure for it.”

That majestic Lord of Thunder, however, closed his eyes again and said coldly, “Leave this place at once.”

Ji Ning was stunned.

This Lord of Thunder wouldn’t even talk about it, he was just telling him to leave? What was he supposed to do?

“Lord of Thunder, I am willing to trade treasures for it. I beg you to reconsider!” Ji Ning said urgently.

The Lord of Thunder opened his eyes, his gaze freezing over: “If you do not leave now, do not blame me for being merciless!”

Ji Ning found himself in a dilemma, unable to advance or retreat.

“Get OUT!” The Lord of Thunder looked down upon Ji Ning, his voice like ice as he bellowed.

Ji Ning’s face turned pale. He immediately bowed and then turned to leave.

Two matters.
