Chapter 670: Getting Stronger

“If I worship that lotus flower, will I become stronger?” Somewhat bewildered, Li Sui walked over and began imitating the others.

Yet after a while, Li Sui felt no change in herself at all. She grew a little discouraged.

Just then, a small centipede crawled past her, about to slip inside the trouser leg of a nearby White Lotus devotee.

Li Sui’s skirt bulged rapidly, and a skinned dog’s head burst out, its jagged teeth clamping onto the centipede as it thrashed wildly.

Watching the centipede shatter beneath her razor-sharp fangs, Li Sui suddenly understood how she should get stronger. In the past, she had always learned whatever Dad learned.

But now she realized that she was different from Dad. What Dad could do, she couldn't, and conversely, what she could do, Dad couldn't.

“Am I Li Sui, or am I Mantou?” Li Sui didn't want to think about that question. What she was thinking about now was her own special ability.

Her body had merged with Mantou’s, granting her Mantou’s fangs and claws. So, if she merged with something else, would she become even stronger?

The more Li Sui thought about it, the more possible it seemed. Dad had always said that Black Tai Sui were born with the ability to hijack and possess. It was her instinct.

Thinking this, Li Sui couldn't be bothered to kneel anymore. She stood up and hurried into the woods to find a suitable host.

There weren’t many options in the woods, and even fewer that could boost her combat power after possession. Luckily, she had just encountered a suitable candidate not long ago.

By the time the sky was fully light, Bai Lingmiao was waiting for Li Huowang to come eat breakfast when a bear covered in writhing tentacles walked out of the woods with earth-shaking steps and stopped in front of her.

“Protect the Saintess!”

Bai Lingmiao stepped out from the protective circle of her followers and looked up in astonishment at the enormous mountain of flesh before her. “Suisui?”

The bear opened its mouth, revealing Li Sui’s cheerful face. “Mom! How did you know it was me? I thought you wouldn’t guess! Mom, look how much meat I have on me! I’m so strong now!”

As she spoke, Li Sui controlled the body and walked over to a large tree. She wrapped her thick paws around it and shook it violently.

Soil flew everywhere. When Li Sui felt the roots loosen, she hugged the trunk and pulled, yanking the entire tree out of the ground. “Mom! Look! I’m really strong now! Am I awesome?!”

Li Sui wasn't just excited about her newfound strength. She had discovered a method to become stronger.

Her ability to hijack bodies was innate to her as a Black Tai Sui. As long as she possessed powerful beings, she could borrow their strength.

It wasn't just bears. In the future, if she could possess even stronger things, she would be able to protect Dad even better.

“Alright, alright, I know you’re strong. Now, hurry up and take off that bear skin. If you’re going to crawl into its belly, you’re going to dirty those fresh clothes you just changed into again.”

“Mom, I didn’t crawl into its belly. This is me now!”

Just as Li Sui was saying this, she, Bai Lingmiao, and even the vigilant White Lotus devotees around them, all felt a strange tugging sensation from deep within the forest.

It was as if the entire world had become a piece of cloth, and someone far away had violently yanked it.

“Dad?” Li Sui called out uncertainly in that direction.

After a long pause, Li Huowang emerged from the woods with a smile on his face. The shrubs and tree branches around him were twisted and collapsed, clearing a path for him as if they were bowing.

“I’ve reached the Navel Chakra! My cultivation method has advanced another step!” Li Huowang announced the good news to Bai Lingmiao.

“Brother Li, this time was so fast! We haven’t even reached Qingqiu yet!” After spending so much time with Li Huowang, Bai Lingmiao naturally understood what this meant.

According to Brother Li, his cultivation method had seven chakras in total. Each time he ascended one, his abilities became more powerful.

“I don’t know why it was so fast this time. Maybe I’m just gifted,” Li Huowang said. He understood that since he was going to Qingqiu and Later Shu to help deal with the Fa Sect, the stronger his cultivation, the better.

Not only would it make manifesting things through cultivation quicker and easier, but the duration of the manifested objects would also become much longer.

Just as he was explaining more to Bai Lingmiao, he noticed Li Sui inside the bear. “Suisui, what are you doing?”

“Dad, you got stronger! But look! I got stronger too! I can help you now!” Li Sui said excitedly, explaining her discovery.

Taking the congee Bai Lingmiao handed him, Li Huowang sat down to eat and listen. But the moment he put the rabbit meat congee into his mouth, his expression turned extremely grim.

Although the congee was perfectly cooked and looked delicious, he tasted absolutely nothing.

To make sure he wasn't the only one experiencing this, Li Huowang handed the bowl to Bai Lingmiao. “Try it.”

Bai Lingmiao stuck out her tongue and gave it a small lick. A puzzled look crossed her delicate face. “Strange. I’m sure I added salt, but it has no taste at all.”

“Not just the salt. I can’t even taste the meat or the rice. This is a Heavenly Calamity!” Li Huowang’s expression shifted between uncertainty and gloom as he looked up at the sky, his brow furrowed in thought. What the hell was happening inside the White Jade Capital right now?

A Heavenly Calamity was never a good thing. It meant the Heavenly Laws had changed, or worse, something had gone wrong with the Siming in charge of them.

“Brother Li, it’s true! Not only can’t I taste anything, I can’t even smell the aroma anymore!” Bai Lingmiao exclaimed in surprise at her own discovery.

Hearing this, Li Huowang began a series of tests. Whether it was good news or bad news remained to be seen, but this Heavenly Calamity had only robbed them of their sense of taste and smell.

Losing only these two senses for the time being wasn't terrifying in itself. What was terrifying was the possibility that this was just the beginning.

Li Huowang was a Siming, too. Ji Zai. If someone had taken Ji Zai’s authority from the Heavenly Laws, then all the trouble that had vanished before would come back! Doumu’s fate had already taught him that even Siming could die!

“Is this related to the Child-God’s expanding influence? Is he hijacking the Heavenly Laws of other Siming?” Li Huowang wondered.

He didn't know which Heavenly Law governed taste and smell, nor did he know if the Siming in charge of them had any believers in this world.

“Let’s move. Speed it up! We need to get to Qingqiu as fast as possible!” Since the Sitian Jian's job was to deal with Heavenly Calamities, they would surely know something.

If Ji Zai was useless, then his best bet for more information now was to squeeze it out of them.

Li Huowang didn't know how much help he could be in this catastrophe. All he could do right now was give it everything he had.

“Hyah! Let’s go!!” The carriage surged forward, pulled by the horses, leaving a cloud of yellow dust in its wake.
