Chapter 731: A Reputation Shakes the Realm. The Heavenly Extremes Sect.

“You and Senior Brother Lu didn’t leave as planned. I had to come back, didn’t I?” Han Li sighed, a hint of helplessness in his voice. But as he looked a little more closely at Mu Peiling, he let out a soft chuckle. “Though, I have to say, I didn’t expect you to have broken through your bottleneck and reached the late Foundation Establishment stage in that time. Congratulations are in order!”

“It was a lucky breakthrough, less than half a month ago. I have your pills to thank, Master. Otherwise, Pei Ling could never have reached this stage in such a short time.” Mu Peiling was visibly excited herself, her features looking even more delicate and alluring as she spoke.

Han Li’s mind wavered for a moment, but after rubbing his nose, his mental state returned to normal. “You and Senior Brother Lu are still here because of the Moulan Dharma Warrior invasion?” he asked casually, his tone noncommittal.

“You’ve guessed it, Master. Senior Gu and I had planned to head back as soon as the trade fair ended. But who would have thought that at the very end of the fair, news of the invasion would arrive?” Mu Peiling bit her lip nervously. “As an elder of the Heavenly Alliance stationed in Tientian City, Senior Gu was obligated to stay and discuss countermeasures with the other powers, so I was stuck here as well.”

“So that explains it. It’s not your fault. But where is Senior Brother Gu now?” As Han Li began to ask further, his expression flickered with surprise, and he abruptly stopped his question.

Mu Peiling was taken aback, unsure of Han Li’s intent, when suddenly a young man’s shout came from outside the inn’s restrictive barrier.

“Fellow Daoist Mu, are you there? It is I, Bai Shujun. Please, come out and speak with me.”

“Who is that? Someone you’ve met recently?” Han Li’s divine sense swept outwards, quickly detecting a Foundation Establishment youth with a refined, scholarly air standing calmly outside the barrier. He asked the question in a detached, thoughtful tone.

The moment Mu Peiling heard the man’s voice, her face paled. Hearing Han Li’s question, she quickly explained, “Master, please don’t misunderstand! He is a disciple of an elder from the Heavenly Extremes Sect. He saw me a few days ago and has been pestering me ever since. I told him I am your concubine, but he still refused to back off. I was just about to chase him away.”

“Is that so? Does Senior Brother Lu know about this?” Han Li raised an eyebrow, his tone flat.

“I did mention it to Senior Lu, but he seems to know that elder from the Heavenly Extremes Sect and appears to be cautious of him. He told me to just stall for now and wait for you to return before doing anything else,” Mu Peiling replied, relieved to see that Han Li was not angered.

“The Heavenly Extremes Sect. Isn’t that one of the four great sects of the Righteous Alliance? No wonder Senior Brother Lu was being so careful. Still, even a minor Foundation Establishment cultivator dares to act so recklessly? His nerve seems a bit too bold. Come with me. Let’s go see what this junior wants.” Han Li was silent for a moment, then let out a cold laugh.

“As you command, Master!” Mu Peiling said with a respectful bow, a flicker of surprise in her eyes.

Without another word, Han Li quietly left the room and descended the stairs. Mu Peiling followed close behind him, a faint fragrance trailing in the air.

“Fellow Daoist Mu, you’ve finally— Huh! Senior, you are—” The youth, Bai Shujun, had been expecting to see the woman he admired, but his expression froze when he saw Han Li. Realizing that Han Li’s cultivation was unfathomably deep, he quickly changed his tone to greet him with respect.

At that moment, Mu Peiling stepped out from behind Han Li, standing close beside him.

Seeing this, a look of dawning understanding crossed Bai Shujun’s face, shifting several times.

“You are a disciple of the Heavenly Extremes Sect?” Han Li’s face darkened, and he addressed the youth in an unfriendly tone.

“That is correct, Senior. I am a disciple under Elder Lu of the Heavenly Extremes Sect. You must be Senior Han!” Bai Shujun was truly no ordinary man. Even facing a Nascent Soul cultivator like Han Li, the panic on his face only flickered for a moment before he composed himself and asked politely.

“Speak. What is your real purpose here?” Han Li’s voice was icy. “Why do you keep harassing my concubine? Doing something so foolish is a risky play for no apparent gain. There must be another motive behind this.”

Mu Peiling’s expression was one of surprise.

“You see through me, Senior! In truth, my master wished to meet you, but you were nowhere to be found. He had me act in this manner to get your attention. However, I must admit, I have genuine feelings for Fellow Daoist Mu. If Senior would be willing to show me this kindness, I would be eternally grateful,” Bai Shujun said with a slight smile, his tone refined and polite.

“Eternally grateful? What use would I have for your gratitude? Don’t be foolish. Han does not have the habit of giving away his own concubine. What I really want to know is, why is your master looking for me? I have never had dealings with your sect before,” Han Li said, his eyes narrowing. He casually glanced towards an empty space to the side, a strange smile curling on his lips as he released a towering, oppressive spiritual pressure.

Bai Shujun’s expression changed drastically as he staggered back several steps, his shoulders slumping under a force as heavy as a mountain. His knees buckled, and he was about to fall to the ground.

Panic-stricken, he struggled against the immense pressure, but after a few moments of trembling, his body began to sink.

Just as he was about to kneel, a white shadow suddenly shot out from the side. It flashed and appeared in front of Bai Shujun, a hand lightly patting his shoulder in support.

The crushing pressure on Bai Shujun instantly vanished, and he stood up straight again.

It was an old man in a white robe with graying hair. He had a kindly face and regular features. As Han Li watched him, the old man gave a faint smile and said, “Please don’t be angry, Fellow Daoist Han. This was all arranged by me. Otherwise, I would have had no way to meet you.”

“How shall I address you? And why do you wish to see me? If my memory serves me, this is the first time I have dealt with your sect. I have certainly never met you before.”

As the white-robed old man appeared, Han Li’s spiritual pressure dissipated instantly, and his expression returned to calm as if nothing had happened.

“Haha! I am Lu Weiying, a humble elder of the Heavenly Extremes Sect. As for why I wanted to see you, it is not convenient to discuss here. If you wish to know the reason, please come to this location tonight. All will be explained then.” Elder Lu showed no sign of anger. With a flick of his hand, a prepared green jade slip shot towards Han Li.

Han Li’s expression was unreadable as he flicked his sleeve, sending a flash of azure light to wrap around the slip and pull it into his sleeve.

He swept his spiritual sense over the item in his sleeve. It did seem to contain an address.

Without looking at it closely, Han Li raised his head to say something, but the old man from the Heavenly Extremes Sect simply clasped his hands in a salute and drifted away, taking the youth with him.

Han Li’s brow furrowed.

The man was so mysterious about everything. He seemed to know something about Han Li, but also to be under a misapprehension, thinking that Han Li had been in Tientian City this whole time and was deliberately hiding from him.

Han Li stroked his chin, somewhat bewildered. Deciding not to intercept them, he pondered for a moment before leading Mu Peiling back into the inn.

“Where is Senior Brother Gu now?” Han Li asked calmly once inside, making no mention of the previous incident as if it had already been dismissed from his mind.

“I heard the situation at the front has become critical again, so Senior Gu went to discuss countermeasures.”

“Discuss countermeasures? Where?” Han Li asked with some interest.

“In the grand assembly hall of Tientian City. I’ve heard that any Nascent Soul cultivator from the various major powers can attend. Are you thinking of going, Master?” Mu Peiling asked softly.

“The grand assembly hall?” Han Li murmured to himself, a mental image forming of the great hall built atop a massive platform in the center of Tientian City. He had sensed heavy restrictions around that area. This must be the so-called ‘Grand Assembly Hall’.

“Good. I was hoping to learn more about the Dharma Warriors’ situation anyway. I’ll go have a look.” Having already made up his mind, and now knowing the whereabouts of his fellow elder, Han Li gave Mu Peiling a few instructions before leaving the inn.

The ‘Grand Assembly Hall’ was indeed a conspicuous landmark, built atop the massive high platform in the very center of the city.

However, unless it concerns matters of life and death for the Nine Nations Alliance, this building was mostly symbolic, rarely used by anyone.

But after a hundred years, with news of the Moulan people’s invasion spreading once more, the high-ranking members of the Nine Nations Alliance had wasted no time in opening this great hall, summoning cultivators from other powers to council together. This wave of Dharma Warriors was powerful, and it seemed the Nine Nations Alliance alone could not hold them back.

When Han Li arrived at the entrance of the great hall, the guards, upon seeing his cultivation and hearing his name, quickly announced him.

Han Li was easily granted entry, and under the respectful guidance of a cultivator, he entered the hall.

The number of Nascent Soul cultivators present for the meeting was not very large, only around a dozen or so, which was far fewer than Han Li had imagined.

After a brief moment of thought, he understood.

Although many Nascent Soul cultivators had gathered in Tientian City, most of them belonged to one of the several major powers. Naturally, there was no need for all of them to attend; they only needed to send a few representatives.

Han Li spotted the Lu elder sitting in a chair on the left side, smiling at him. The person next to him was also familiar: the Fire Dragon Boy.

As for the rest, except for one old man in a yellow robe, Han Li was unfamiliar with them all.

After looking at that old man in the yellow robe for a moment longer, Han Li let out a silent sigh.

This old man was none other than Grand Elder Linghu of the former Yellow Maple Valley.
