Wind Rises Overseas: Extreme Yin Strikes
1,859 words
Han Li’s face remained utterly expressionless as he watched the box bounce off the light barrier and fall to the ground outside the formation.
He showed no intention of deactivating the restriction.
He simply fixed the golden box with a wary stare and said nothing.
“What’s the matter? Afraid this box was also transformed from a Yin Soul Thread? You can rest assured on that score. That old ghost is dead now. I have no choice but to work with you if I want to eliminate Extreme Yin. I won’t be making another attempt on your life. Besides, you have such an astonishing number of Gold Lightning Bamboo artifacts on you—that caught me completely off guard. They should prove exceptionally effective against Extreme Yin’s Profound Yin Grand Art. I would hardly be foolish enough to cut off my own arm.” The Profound Bone Saint stood with his hands clasped behind his back, calmly watching Han Li from within the light barrier.
Han Li didn’t even glance up at the Profound Bone Saint.
As far as he was concerned, if the other party had been willing to ambush him once, there was no reason he wouldn’t do so a second time for some unknown reason.
No matter how pleasing or reasonable the words coming out of his mouth sounded, Han Li had to remain cautious.
With this thought, Han Li raised a single hand. A slender, pale-golden arc of lightning shot out and struck the lid of the golden box.
A crackling sound of electrical fire rang out. The box shook a few times, but nothing unusual happened.
Seeing this, Han Li let out a quiet breath.
If the box had been some sort of evil creation, it would not have been able to withstand a strike from the Bane-Subduing Divine Lightning.
He then stretched out a hand and beckoned to the box from a distance. The golden chest leapt up from the ground and flew straight toward him.
At the same time, the surrounding light barrier flickered once and then returned to its original state. The golden box took advantage of this opening to pass through the shield and fly into Han Li’s hand.
Under the watch of the Profound Bone Saint’s spiritual sense, Han Li’s figure did not move at all. This reassured him slightly. He lowered his head and gazed at the golden box in his palm.
But he stared at the object, a cold light flickering in his eyes, without immediately opening the lid. He seemed to be contemplating something.
Seeing Han Li’s cautious demeanor, the Profound Bone Saint in the air merely let out a cold laugh. He began to leisurely look around, showing no sign of urging him on.
Han Li glanced at the white rabbit incarnation of the spirit ginseng lying on the ground.
It was completely still, appearing to still be unconscious.
After a brief moment of deliberation, Han Li no longer hesitated. He reached out two fingers and gently tapped the lid of the golden box.
Immediately, a ball of green light flared up between his fingers and the lid. Then, with that single tap, the lid sprang open on its own, revealing the object inside.
Han Li quickly focused his gaze. A small, unassuming object appeared before his eyes.
It was about half a foot long, entirely earth-yellow in color, and its outer skin was dry and covered in wrinkles, much like an ordinary old tree root.
Han Li was speechless.
If there was anything out of the ordinary about it, it was that at the very top of the object grew a beautiful, silver-white flower. It emitted a faint radiance and carried a subtle fragrance that, upon catching a whiff, invigorated Han Li’s spirit.
Just as Han Li was feeling doubtful—was this truly the Nine-Bend Spirit Ginseng, or was the Profound Bone Saint trying to deceive him with some unknown object?—the white rabbit, which had been lying motionless on the grass, suddenly leaped into the air. It transformed into a ball of white light and shot toward the “root” inside the golden box.
Han Li was taken aback at first, but then a look of delight appeared on his face.
Since the Nine-Bend Spirit Ginseng’s white rabbit incarnation was so fixated on this object, it proved that this was indeed the Nine-Bend Spirit Ginseng. This put his mind at ease.
But Han Li naturally couldn’t just allow the incarnation to merge with its main body just like that.
He didn’t stand on ceremony. He curled a finger and flicked it. A green sword light shot out, striking the rabbit square on the head, sending it tumbling backward to its original spot.
But this little creature, seeing its true body right in front of it, desperately leaped forward again with a fierce charge, as if it wouldn’t stop until it had its way.
Han Li was growing impatient.
He immediately fired an arc of lightning, which struck the rabbit down to the ground completely. A large patch of its fur was scorched black, and it was truly unconscious this time.
Han Li then snatched the rabbit out of the air with a telekinetic grasp. After a glance at it, he tossed it into the golden box.
As soon as the white rabbit incarnation touched the main body of the Nine-Bend Spirit Ginseng, a white light flashed, and it spontaneously merged into it.
Han Li quickly closed the lid and placed a small restriction on it to prevent it from escaping.
Only after doing all this did Han Li finally let out a slight sigh of relief.
The Profound Bone Saint still showed no sign of making a move. This gave Han Li some peace of mind, but it also raised his vigilance even higher.
So, after stuffing the golden box into his storage pouch, he calmly asked:
“Senior, if you give me the Nine-Bend Spirit Ginseng just like this, aren’t you afraid I’ll take it and run?”
Han Li’s was a probing question.
“Run? Do you think you can make this spiritual object work with just the ginseng and no formula to refine it?” The Profound Bone Saint withdrew his wandering gaze, looked at Han Li, and spoke unhurriedly.
Hearing this, Han Li furrowed his brow, just as he was about to say something more.
The Profound Bone Saint, however, cut him off with a cold laugh and said without allowing any argument:
“Extreme Yin has already laid a mark on you. You could run to the ends of the earth, and you still wouldn’t escape his tracking. You’d be wise to cooperate with me. Otherwise, even if you manage to escape the Void Heaven Palace with the spirit ginseng, in the future… heh heh!”
“Laid a mark on me?” Han Li’s expression changed, but he quickly returned to his usual calm.
With his powerful spiritual sense, he didn’t believe for a moment that someone could have placed a mark on him without his knowledge.
Seeing this, the Profound Bone Saint naturally guessed that Han Li didn’t believe him.
Just as he was about to offer some proof, his face suddenly changed. He whirled around and gazed into the distance.
Han Li was baffled by this. At the same time, alarm bells rang in his heart. He secretly wondered if the old fiend was up to some other trick.
But the Profound Bone Saint immediately turned back and said something that immediately put Han Li on high alert.
“Extreme Yin is about to arrive. He’s probably coming for you. You’re on your own! I’ll hide for now.” Having said this, the Profound Bone Saint transformed into a cloud of Yin energy and flew away, disappearing without a trace in the blink of an eye.
Han Li stood there, dumbfounded.
Just as he was wondering whether what the other party had said was true or false, a rumbling sound of ghostly howls came from the distant sky. Then, a massive expanse of pitch-black clouds rolled in from the horizon, blotting out the sky and covering the earth.
Judging by its direction, it was heading straight for him.
Han Li’s heart sank.
This black cloud was exactly the terrifying momentum displayed when the Profound Yin Grand Art was performed. The person coming was almost certainly Extreme Yin Patriarch himself.
Could it be that he really had been secretly marked by Extreme Yin without knowing it?
Otherwise, why would Extreme Yin Patriarch have come to such a remote location and fly straight toward him with such precision?
At the same time, Han Li cursed the Profound Bone Saint furiously in his heart.
Hadn’t he been saying all along that they should join forces to deal with Extreme Yin? Now that the enemy had arrived alone, he had fled with such speed, leaving Han Li here all by himself.
This left Han Li utterly exasperated.
It was too late for him to hide now. It seemed he would have to brace himself and deal with the situation.
Just as Han Li was packing up his formation, the vast black clouds reached the treetops in the blink of an eye and came to an abrupt halt.
Now, Han Li no longer had a choice. He could only tense up inside and silently watch the black clouds, saying nothing.
He believed that the other party couldn’t possibly try to kill him on sight. This would be a good chance to find out exactly why Extreme Yin Patriarch was so persistent in chasing him.
He had been racking his brains over this for a long time without finding the reason.
It was driving him up the wall.
With this thought, Han Li’s state of mind returned to normal. He stared up at the black clouds in the sky, silently waiting for the other party to speak.
But what Han Li never expected was that, first, a cold snort came from within the clouds. Then, a jet-black pillar of light shot out from the clouds with the speed of thunder, striking the light barrier of his formation.
A flash of yellow light, followed by the sound of shattering. The light barrier couldn’t withstand a single blow and dissipated with a crisp crack.
The black pillar of light, now unimpeded, swept straight toward Han Li.
Han Li’s face instantly turned pale.
Without a second thought, he flickered and vanished from his original position, reappearing over ten zhang away. His expression was one of shock and fury.
Without any further hesitation, Han Li waved both hands. Several dozen giant puppet apes appeared around him, forming a barrier in front of him.
Then, several spirit beast pouches spun in a circle and were released, floating before him and gently swaying.
A look of icy coldness shone in Han Li’s eyes.
Although he knew his chances of victory were extremely low, if the other party really intended to kill him here, he would have to put up a fight.
He would not simply wait for death!
At the same time, the true essence within his body locked onto the nine Azure Bamboo Cloudswarm Swords, ready to spring into action at any moment.
